BLOG CORNER: DO YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN??

Are we turning into a nation of complainers?

Our parents and grand parents very rarely complained about faulty goods or bad service.

This may have been something to do with them not purchasing a great many material items   and not having a lifestyle which relied on personal services.

Perhaps goods were of a higher standard and built to last, whilst service was provided by people who  took pride in serving the public.

Complaining was not something the averege person liked to do, unless the goods or service were  of a very unacceptable level.

It was seen as being awkward and confrontational, and the complainer would gain an unfavourable reputation  and be be disliked.

How things have changed.

We are much more aware of our rights as citizens, and have a more entitled attitude, and naturally want value for money.

There are now pathways to follow if one has a complaint.

Sellers may have to replace goods or refund their value, and a service may have to be repeated at no charge, or compensation made available.

There are ombudsmen who will intervene and  give guidance to  a complainer, and if all else fails, legal steps can be implemented.

Such examples could be  receiving a wrong online order,  faulty equipment, goods not as advertised.

Poor service could be a restaurant serving undercooked food, a taxi service providing an unclean vehicle or a hair colouring gone wrong at a hairdressers.

All of these things would amount to  legitimate complaints, so therefore  could have a positive outcome if one were to go through the relevant channels and receive compensation in one way or another.

However, complaints are made about an increasing list of things.

If a bus or train is late, if there is a queue waiting to gain entry to a  fixture, if the weather is too hot / cold / raining / for a day out in the country, and increasingly complaints about TV programmes.

Cruise ships report that some passengers complain if they cant go into a particular port if the weather is not suitable, and they might complain if it is a particularly windy day.

It seems that more and more people are creating holes in situations where the outcome is not down to a person but circumstances out with anyone`s control.

It is beginning to sound as if there are a great many unhappy people out there who are always looking for the perfect outcome. They don`t focus on the good parts which are enjoyable, but on any negative aspects which cancels out the whole experience.

We can`t always have exactly what we want, as X factors come along and sometimes alter the path which one wanted to follow.

It may not be exactly what the expectation was, but will still have very positive aspects and may sometimes actually be better than the original plan.

Being constantly in a state of complaint, where everything has a downside, is not a good mind set to have.

Complain if it is justified, but don`t  turn it into a hobby and become bitter and twisted with an ungrateful and entitled attitude as it shows in ones personality.

Sometimes those who have the least, and have been through the most, can show us what real gratitude is, which is well worth bearing in mind.
